Project Celica
Step 2: Brake Repairs

5.12.10

After almost two months without doing any significant work on the Celica (AP tests take a lot of time), we returned to work on the brakes.  With AP Physics out of the way, it was time for Kenny to learn about drum brakes.  As he quickly learned, they are no more fun than deriving Bernouli's equation.  After consulting the mechanics manuals and adding a little elbow grease, the rear brakes were disassembled and ready to be assessed.  The brakes were in fair condition for their age so the drums were sandblasted and new shoes will be ordered shortly.
