Step 1: Interior Removal

3.13.10

We were all a little scared when the new car pulled up the driveway like a bucking bronco, but our fears were alayed when we realized I had just left the park brake on as I drove the car (what? I don't drive a stick much...) The car actually ran, and would have run well if I were a little smarter.  Our first step in making this old car track-worthy was to completely gut the interior... and it was nasty work.

Because the car had been sitting in the previous owner's yard for three years, it wasn't hard to remove (or break) many of the pieces of the interior.  The era in which the car was made also made the removal of the interior much easier as aestherics weren't a major factor in the design of this car's inside.  Armed with a 9mm and 12mm socket, a screwdriver and a crobar I was able to remove every piece of the interior.  When the dust settled, we had stripped 220 lbs out of the car bringing our total weight around 2440 lbs.

It's Gone!

Finally done, and it only took about 3 hours

(no that's not rust on the left rear tub... it's excess padding)
