2008 Rockingham Road Course Race #4
First Bandolero Win for KBR
11/15/08
The 2008 National Points have been tallied, but the racing never stops at KBR. This year, both Kenny and Andy will be driving a new track, the famous Rockingham Speedway. The track owner has set aside four race dates in 2008 for the Bandolero and Legends Divisions to race on the road course that utilizes the infield course as well as a part of the big track. Today is bound to be exciting because both of our boys will be on track at the same time.
It's a mild and wet Saturday morning, the team arrives at Rockingham and finds a pit stall in the garage. The boys roll out their cars. Kenny will pilot the #14 Twister Bandolero in todays race, and Andy will be driving the #36 RCR Lake Norman Re/Max car. Kemny starts the heat race in the last row and Andy starts on the pole. Going into turn 3 on the first lap, Kenny is making the pass to the inside when he slides through a small patch of water and right into Andy! Kenny keeps going, but Andy falls back to 5th. From there Kenny pushes his way to 2nd, and Andy maintains his position. Unfortunately, a lengthy rain delay forces KBR to return tomorrow to complete their race.
Sunday is a lot drier than the day before. Now we're ready to race. Beginning on the outside pole, Kenny takes advantage of a spin by the leader on lap 3, and takes the lead. Kenny then keeps the lead for the remainder of the race to earn his first career win in the Bandolero. Unfortunately for Andy, engine troubles on the original start and a mid-race spin relegates him to 7th place overall.
