The Spooktacular 300

It's not Halloween but it's still pretty spooky... and cold.  When we arrive at the 1/5th mile track at LMS it's bitter 28 degrees.  The Spooktacular is a big race, 100 laps split into two 50 lap segments.  It is different from all the other races we run.  To qualify, a member of the team must bob for an apple as fast as they can .  With some helpful advice, and an iron tooth, my Dad snagged an apple in 1.73 seconds.  Good enough for a 4th place starting position in the first 50 lap segment.

The first segment starts out well.  I gained 3 positions when a caution comes out.  On the restart, my car becomes a hand full and I lost 3 positions.  When the 1st segment ends, I'm in 6th on the tail end of the lead lap.  The starting order on the second segment is based on the order the cars came off the track.  This puts me at the back of the pack for the second segment.

It was alot of fun to pass through the pack of lapped cars in front of me.  A couple lead lap cars in front of me spun out, allowing me to move into 4th place.  I was racing for position with another car when we collided and spun into the grass. When I got going again the leader was half a straight away behind me. I raced hard not to be lapped and passed back a number of cars that got by me earlier  but the leader is too fast and caught up!   Going into turns 3 and 4 the leader loosened me up to get passed me.  I tried a  crossover move in turns 1 and 2 and got ahead of him.  Again, in 3 and 4 we were bouncing off each other when another car tried to make it 3 wide.  Not a good idea and he ends up wrecking coming onto the front straightaway.   It's just the leader and I coming to the yellow flag.  Unfortunately, the leader has a nose on me and i fell a lap down.

On the restart, the handling on my car becomes horrible and I tried to hang onto the position I had.  When the checkered flag drops ,The No. 14 Bandolero ends up in 5th place and recieves its first top 5 finish.  The crew is really happy!
